CHRIS BRADBURY
Writer

I have always believed that creativity begins with paying attention.
The small moments. The questions that stay with us. The memories we cannot quite let go of. The stories hidden behind ordinary faces and ordinary places.
Writing, music and art have been my way of exploring those things. Sometimes through a character in a story, sometimes through a song, sometimes through an image that says something words cannot. Writing is how I make sense of things.
This website is a collection of those journeys — the stories, songs and artwork that have grown from a lifetime of observing, wondering and imagining.
Thank you for taking the time to visit. I hope you find something here that connects with you.

FOR ALL YOU RIGHT-WING, HATEFUL MORONS OUT THERE. GET IN THE SEA!
All you men and boys that cower behind your masks
As you head to Portsmouth Town
You hide behind your right to speak
A right you’ve never had to earn
Â
All you malcontents that hide behind your failings
As you head to Dover Town
You bury yourselves in a tomb of self-loathing
A right you have easily earned
Â
The Englishman came from lands ‘cross the ocean
The Englishman came from places unseen
The Englishman came from the loins of invaders
The Englishman came from old Angln
Â
All you shadows and ghosts who put flags at half mast
On our lampposts and our bridges
You hide behind a flag of foreign invention
And the lions of the Angevin
Â
All you Bell Beaker boys and Danegeld deposits
All you utterers of Norse and old German tongues
All you sons of the French and the Saxon marauders
Come look in the mirror and see where you’re from
Â
The Englishman came from lands ‘cross the ocean
The Englishman came from places unseen
The Englishman came from the loins of invaders
The Englishman came from old Angln
Â
So when brothers and sisters escape to our Heaven
From the Hell that our fathers fled
Be not so quick as to pass on your judgment
Lest that judgment condemns you as well
Â
Lest that judgment condemns you as well
Â
Oh, the Englishman came from lands ‘cross the ocean
The Englishman came from places unseen
The Englishman came from the loins of invaders
The Englishman came from old Angln
Â
Be not so quick as to pass on your judgment
Lest that judgment condemns you as well
